About TLC

We think it’s a crying shame that there are still many people a long way from meaningful, fulfilling lives, with work or without. So, we set about changing that.  Transform Lives Company is an established social enterprise working in the North-West dedicated to not just transforming people’s lives but transforming the way we can do this. Our developmental support really is life changing. We work with inspiring volunteer hosts and partners to build people’s confidence and ensure them feel valued. We are changing the way this support is funded and delivered.

We have shown the effectiveness of our approach and the positive outcomes it brings.  We work with partners looking to collaborate to bring about social action beyond their core purpose.  Our approach is truly person-centred. We start with kindness, understanding the difficult situations many people find themselves in.

Become a trained, part time Community Researcher (October ’24 – Feb ’25)

What will you be doing?

We’re on a mission to find out what people really think about the job centres and  other ‘employment’ services.  To do that we need to listen to as many people as possible, and we need your help to do that.

  • Do you want to help us better understand what people need and want from job centres and other employment support?
  • Can you listen to people and write down or record what they have to say?
  • Are you interested in being part of what a future ‘job centre’ experience is like for people?

A Community Researcher is someone on the ground in a local community, neighbourhood, estate or part of a town, who gathers in experiences and voices of real people who have experienced, or are experiencing, unemployment, including working people who found it difficult to find the right job.

You’ll have training from us, so you have a good understanding of what you need to do before you start in the role.  We’d like you to go to places you already know (or we can introduce you to) where you will meet people to talk to, interview, or join in discussions with, about the things people experience when they are unemployed and trying to find a job.  You’ll record what they say (with their permission) and report this back centrally to us (anonymously).  We’ll explain how it all works at the training sessions.  You will report to Project Manager

You will get:

  • Training provided on set days (on paid time) by us and our partner, Capacity
  • Access to a Tablet provided to you
  • Support from a dedicated team at Transform Lives Company
  • Pay – Real Living Wage
  • All travel expenses covered
  • A coach in the team who you can talk to along the way. You won’t be ‘left to it’…
  • A chance to work on things that matter
  • After 4 months of research with us, we will offer ongoing support if you want to find more paid work, and a reference for future employers
  • A chance to develop and learn new skills as well as apply yours so others can benefit
  • A supportive and collaborative team culture.

Your Skills - you’ll love this job if you’re a great communicator, love meeting new people and getting to know them as well as getting out and about

  • You’ve got ideas for places where you could speak to people who are out of work
  • You enjoy talking to people, you can sit down and strike up a conversation with anyone and more importantly, listen to people
  • You are sensitive to other people’s needs, you’re non-judgmental and can respect people’s ideas, opinions or need for privacy
  • You’re friendly and approachable, you make people feel at ease
  • A good level of written and spoken English
  • Ability to accurately record information, organized and reliable person – you will be where you say you will be, you will keep in touch with the team and report any issues
  • You can work independently and feel confident about introducing yourself to new people and going to new places
  • Able to travel around your local area, as well as get to our central office in Liverpool occasionally.
