FROM COACHING TO COLLEAGUES

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN…

Jo found TLC when she applied for a role and saw on the application site, ‘are you a member of Give Get Go?’ she wondered what that was, Googled it and found us! Jo had been out of work for several years due to caring for family members. She was in a position where she wanted to get back into work, but her self-belief and confidence didn’t align. That’s where Give Get Go came in. We supported Jo with 1-1 employability coaching sessions, and she took part in our Workology course which helped her to think more positively about her own skills and experience and how that could be related to the workplace. Jo also found the Lifeology well-being sessions invaluable and only increased her confidence further. Jo wanted to make a difference in her community, help people and support others in a way that she had previously been helped. Jo is a creative person who connects with people easily. We helped her to see that in herself and to see where those skills could translate into a paid job.  As part of the coaching Jo created her dream job advert, which was a million miles away from the job in admin she kept saying she wanted.

Through creating her dream job, we were able to help Jo find that role in reality. Jo’s journey has not only been inspirational, but it’s also been unique in the fact that she has gone from being supported by her coach, Bev to now being Bev’s colleague

Bev said: ‘I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with Jo as part of team TLC. I recognised in her quite early on the qualities she has that would make her great in a role such as the one she is now working in. She is empathetic, kind, thoughtful, funny and above all wants to make that difference. I am looking forward to getting to know her now in a different capacity as a colleague and I’m excited to see where the next part of the journey takes her. She was looking for something when she found  TLC and now TLC have found her!’

‘Part of our role in TLC is to help to support our participants into work and I love TLC’s ethos that if we have a vacancy, we can encourage our participants to apply for those roles, so we really do, do what we say on the tin!’

Jo Said: ‘I am looking forward to being someone’s ‘Bev’ and helping people to see what TLC saw within me.  I was feeling a bit lost, but now I have a purpose in life. I  can’t wait to start my new role, meet the team and make that difference. There was a reason I was meant to find TLC, I didn’t know it on day one, but I certainly know it now. I’m looking forward  to meeting people, sharing my example and spread a little TLC to those that need it.’

What have you learned?

That I am worth more than I thought. I was willing to write myself off as to ever getting back into employment. GGG was a positive experience, and when I was being told solidly, positively for 12 weeks that ‘I can,’ I  finally came to believe it.

What would you say was the turning point that really made a difference?

I connected so well with my coach, I felt I could call her when I was in panic mode, which I wouldn’t normally do, about a potential interview. She talked me down, listened. I felt so comfortable with her that I knew I could speak to her when I needed help. She gave me options, support and that’s where the belief began. She gave me as much time as I needed, she invested in me.

What would you say to anyone thinking about getting involved in GGG?
