Friday 11th February was a very exciting day, not only was the weather lovely but it was the first day of one of our open walking groups for the This Girl Can project. I met with two lovely ladies, Carmen and Adele, at Sefton Park boating lake and there we began our journey to breaking the stigma that surrounds menopause, as well as getting our daily steps in. It was so refreshing to meet with others face to face and connect
after the difficult couple of years we have all faced. We discussed many issues surrounding the topic and simply got to know each other, but one thing that struck my attention was just how many women feel as though they are simply ‘going mad’ due to lack of information and misdiagnosis. And why is that? Women’s health is not a taboo subject and therefore should not be treated in such a way.
It is incredible just how much a women’s body goes through in her life time, menstruation, childbirth and then menopause and we are expected to simply just get on with it. Well no more! Our project's aim is to create a safe space for those who wish to share their experiences or for those who wish to learn more about the changes they will inevitably face and to get moving to help relieve some of the symptoms you may be feeling. I personally feel it is such a wonderful thing, to create an environment for women to know and feel that they are not alone and can freely share without shame or judgement.
