The Grand National partnership with TLC and Clean Event
We began working with Clean Event back in October 2024 when they gave a guaranteed interview to one of our participants
who applied for a cleaning role at the Philharmonic. This role suited her perfectly as she could fit it around the course she was doing. She was successful at interview and fitted into the team quickly. Clean Event were so impressed with our participant that they asked if we had more people looking for work. Of course we did! The important this for us at TLC was that Clean Event’s values aligned with our own and we knew our participants would be in good hands. We’ve had more participants going to work at the Philharmonic after successful guaranteed interviews.
The guaranteed interview process that employers like Clean Event offer our participants really takes the stress and anxiety out of apply for roles for our participants and removes a barrier to work.
On the back of the success of the Philharmonic roles we spoke to Clean Event about some opportunities at the Grand National as this is another venue the look after in Liverpool . They had roles available in cleaning and in the cloakroom. Participants that were interested spoke to Mark, who is the venue presentation manager at the racecourse, and he explained the role, hours and what to expect. Participants applied for a number of reasons.
Emily, aspiring to work in hospitality, saw this as a chance to explore the field. "It’s opened doors for me, and I can use this experience to pursue hospitality. It’s helped me realize the job I want."
Ting dreams of working in a laboratory but sought to improve her English and understand British work culture. "This helped me grasp the work environment. I enjoyed seeing people dressed up—something uncommon in my home country. It gave me valuable experience for my future job."
The role involved final pre-cleaning before opening to the public, aided by great weather. On race days, participants transitioned to cloakroom duties, assisting VIP guests.
The Grand National, a globally recognized event, adds weight to participants' CVs, demonstrating transferable skills and qualities. Their experience provides valuable examples for interview questions, such as "Tell me about a time you worked under pressure."
We asked Clean Event why they wanted to support TLC’ s GiveGetGo project and help our participants with valuable paid work experience.’
‘After meeting with the TLC team, it was very clear that our company values align with each other, and we both wanted to support people in the same way. As a company we are extremely diverse and support people from all walks of life and background and give them to tools and support to succeed in the workplace. We have many different roles so we can always find something suitable for candidates. From a personal point of view, it also gave me a feeling of pride seeing TLC candidates succeed.’
Why has partnering with TLC in your recruiting process been beneficial for Clean Event and your different venues?’
‘TLC have been fantastic in their screening of candidates before they arrive to us. They asked us for our Job descriptions and company values so they only sent us people they thought would match our needs. This saved us so much time not having to interview people who wouldn't be suitable. They also kept in constant contact with us at Clean Event and their candidates to help with a smooth transition.’
A big TLC thank you from us to Clean Event, we’re excited to continue our partnership with you.
