What's your favourite thing about 2021 so far? You might not have been asked that question yet, or even thought about what you're grateful for this year, but it's an important exercise. We can improve our wellbeing simply by taking quiet moments to ourselves to appreciate the small things, the wins, and any moments where things just seem that little bit better.
One of my favourite things has been running the Positive Moveology programme since January. The power of movement to support your physical and mental health has never been more important than it is right now and Positive Moveology is a free programme where you can find support and motivation amongst a community of like-minded people.
We're aware that people may have taken on a lot in the past year, or even not feel up to being part of a group just yet, so the programme is designed to be entirely self-led, with no obligations or expectations. It's about taking small steps towards your wellbeing in an easy to manage way, and the only promises you make are to yourself.
Each week I lead (optional) chair yoga and mat-based yoga classes online and share the recordings with anyone who can't make the live sessions. Thanks to our funder Sports England, we can also offer yoga equipment, water bottles and pedometers to anyone who is out of employment and in the Liverpool City Region.
I also send daily emails full of encouragement, motivation and ideas and I love getting feedback emails from everyone in the group! Some people send me nature photos from the walks they're taking, others send me recipes and ideas for moving around the home or outdoors. Here's what some of our participants have said about the programme so far:
"Positive Moveology is a reminder not to give up when I'm down."
"My flexibility and stability has improved."
"Since joining the programme I've cycled or walked every day."
"I look forward to your updates as the programme has given me a new focus and I'm developing my knowledge."
