Across Liverpool and beyond, TLC have made volunteering a huge part of our participant's journey through our programs. Here are just SOME of the benefits you can gain from volunteering.

  1. Skill Development: Volunteering allows you to acquire and enhance various skills that are highly valuable in the job market. You can learn new technical skills related to the volunteer role itself, such as event planning, project management, or fundraising. Additionally, you can develop soft skills like communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving, which are transferable to different professional settings.

  2. Relevance and Experience: Volunteering provides an opportunity to gain current and relevant experience, even if it's not in a paid capacity. This helps bridge the gap in your resume and shows potential employers that you've been actively engaged and productive during your time away from formal work. You can highlight your volunteer experience and the skills you acquired when applying for jobs.

  3. Networking: Volunteering exposes you to a network of individuals who share similar interests and causes. Building connections with professionals, fellow volunteers, and even organizational leaders can expand your professional network. These connections can provide valuable recommendations, mentorship, and potential job leads. Networking is a powerful tool when seeking employment, and volunteering opens doors to meaningful connections.

  4. Confidence Building: Volunteering allows you to step out of your comfort zone, take on new challenges, and make a positive impact on others. As you contribute your time and skills, you'll likely witness the value you bring to the organization and the positive change you can make in people's lives. This sense of accomplishment and purpose can significantly boost your self-confidence, helping you regain your professional self-assurance.

  5. Test-Drive Career Options: Volunteering can serve as a testing ground to explore different industries, job roles, and environments. It allows you to gain firsthand experience and insights into areas that interest you. This practical exposure can help you make informed decisions about your career direction and identify areas where you'd like to focus your job search.

  6. References and Recommendations: Strong references and recommendations are crucial when applying for jobs. Volunteering offers an opportunity to establish positive relationships with supervisors, coordinators, or fellow volunteers who can vouch for your abilities, work ethic, and character. These references can provide valuable testimonials that potential employers may seek during the hiring process.
