Elephants & Empathy

Elephants & Empathy

Transform Lives Company introduces Elephants & Empathy, a community interest company founded by our very own Chell da Silva Willis

and supported by Lauren and Tracy, who are also directors of the organisation. Chell set up Elephants & Empathy following the death of her partner Craig in March 2019 and hopes to help as many people as possible with their complex journey of grief. Chell’s mission is to help bereaved people learn how to live alongside loss, rather than feeling like they have to ‘move on’ or ‘get over’ their loss(es). We don’t ‘move on’, we try to move forward, whatever that looks like. Learning to live life whilst honouring your grief and love is what Chell wants to help people take steps towards, even if those steps are baby ones – we all go at our own pace.

We are excited to announce that the first two groups are ready to go: one face-to-face, the other online. If you, or anyone you know would like a safe and gentle space to talk through grief, keep reading.

Elephants & Empathy provides a unique space to be heard in our own experiences of loss, grief and bereavement as well as learning how to help others who are grieving.

Each session is carefully planned so you can begin gently, easing into the workshops in a way that is as safe and comfortable as possible. You will explore a range of topics within loss, grief and bereavement and be given the opportunity to share your story, thoughts, or simply just listen to others doing so. It is very relaxed in terms of any expectations of you and each individual can decide how much they want to contribute – there’s absolutely no pressure to share unless you wish to do so.

It can be very challenging to attend any group sessions where topics like this are being discussed, which is why the Elephants’ team has gone to great lengths to ensure their content is delivered sensitively, empathetically and compassionately.

You’ll be given two beautifully designed booklets, which contain signposted support, as well as activities to complete once the workshops are over. You will also adopt your very own squishy elephant which will be hiding somewhere in your goody bag! The venue for the face-to-face group is a beautiful New York loft-style space, near Cains Brewery in Liverpool, with comfy sofas and a peaceful ambiance.
